Hey, it’s me! --- Desastre verde's director of photography. Here's what you need to know about how to survive volcanic eruptions. On today’s entry, I'll share to you what you need to prepare before an eruption arrives.

The first thing you have to do is to update yourself with local news. Public service announcements from government officials and the current status of the volcano is addressed through such. Second, have an evacuation plan beforehand. Know your evacuation centers and plan out with your family how to get to the safe area. By doing so, you get to familiarize yourself on the routes which you can take in an emergency.
An emergency bag, or go-bag, must be ready by the time volcano would strike. The bag consists of supplies needed for survival, especially since you will have to evacuate the area. As you can see from the picture, that's awfully a lot of stuff, but here's a list of the essential stuff:
- money and identification
- phone and power bank
- a first aid kit, as well as prescribed medicine (if applicable)
- extra clothes
- food and water
- a flashlight with extra batteries
- a portable radio with extra batteries
- dust masks & goggles
Of course, the emergency bag has all the important items, you also have to make sure the items won’t be damaged and/or wet, keep them in waterproof containers. Lastly, keep all food in enclosed shelters. This is self-explanatory since food is the top priority for survival and it could be soiled easily during the disaster. To all readers, must we remember to be aware about volcanic eruptions and stay vigilant at all times. We may never know when disaster may strike so always prepare for the worst.
Stay safe everyone! x
